His story

Ya'qub, also called Israel (3:93), was the son of Ishaq and grandson of Ibrahim. Ibrahim charged his sons, and Ya'qub his, to hold to submission to Allah. At his death Ya'qub asked his sons what they would worship after him, and they answered that they would worship his God, the God of his fathers Ibrahim, Isma'il and Ishaq (2:132-133).

Most of his story in the Quran is told with Yusuf's. He grieved long for his son, and at the end was reunited with him in Egypt (12:99-100). His marriages, the names of his sons and his age come from historical reports that the Quran does not state.
