His story

As a boy, Yusuf saw eleven stars, the sun and the moon bowing to him, and his father told him not to tell his brothers (12:4-5). Out of jealousy they threw him into a well and brought back his shirt with false blood on it (12:15-18). A caravan found him and sold him in Egypt for a few coins (12:19-20).

In the house where he grew up, the wife of al-'Aziz tried to seduce him. He refused and chose prison over sin (12:23-33). In prison he called two fellow prisoners to the worship of Allah alone and interpreted their dreams (12:36-41). He later interpreted the king's dream of seven fat cows and seven lean ones, and was cleared when the women admitted the truth (12:43-51). He was then put in charge of the storehouses of the land (12:55).

Famine brought his brothers to Egypt. In the end he made himself known to them and forgave them, telling them that no blame would fall on them that day (12:92). His shirt restored his father's sight (12:96). His parents came to him, and the dream of his boyhood came true (12:100).

92. He said: "No reproach on you this day; may Allâh forgive you, and He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy![4]

[4] (V.12:92) Narrated Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه: I heard Allâh’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم saying, "Verily Allâh created mercy. The day He created it, He made it into one hundred parts. He withheld with Him ninety-nine parts, and sent its one part to all His creatures. Had a disbeliever known of all the mercy which is in the Hands of Allâh, he would not have lost hope of entering Paradise, and had a believer known of all the punishment which is present with Allâh, he would not have considered himself safe from the Hell-fire."
