His story

Isma'il was the forbearing son given to Ibrahim in answer to his prayer (37:100-101). Ibrahim settled some of his family in an uncultivated valley by Allah's Sacred House (14:37).

When the boy was old enough to work with him, Ibrahim told him of a dream in which he was sacrificing him. Isma'il told his father to do as he was commanded (37:102). Allah ransomed him with a great sacrifice (37:107). Father and son later raised the foundations of the House, praying for it to be accepted (2:127).

The Quran praises him as true to his promise, a messenger and prophet, who commanded his family to pray and give zakah (19:54-55). The other details of his life, such as his marriages and the peoples he was sent to, come from historians.
