His story

Ibrahim was given right guidance early in life (21:51). He called his father to leave the idols, and answered his father's threat with a greeting of peace and a promise to ask forgiveness for him (19:41-48). He later disowned his father once it became clear that he was an enemy of Allah (9:114). He called his people to worship Allah alone (29:16).

While his people were away, he broke their idols to pieces, all but the largest, so that they might turn to it (21:58). They decided to burn him, and Allah commanded the fire to be cool and safe for Ibrahim (21:69). He then emigrated, saying that he was going to his Lord (29:26), and Allah granted him Ishaq and Ya'qub (29:27).

In al-Bidaya wan-Nihaya, Ibn Kathir rejects as Israelite reports the accounts of Ibrahim's childhood among the stars. He also treats the names and ages of Ibrahim's ancestors as claims of the People of the Book.

124. And (remember) when the Lord of Ibrâhîm (Abraham) [i.e., Allâh] tried him with (certain) Commands,[24] which he fulfilled. He (Allâh) said (to him), "Verily, I am going to make you an Imâm (a leader) for mankind (to follow you)." [Ibrâhîm (Abraham)] said, "And of my offspring (to make leaders)." (Allâh) said, "My Covenant (Prophethood) includes not Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers)."

(2) Shaving the pubic hair. (3) Cutting the moustaches short. (4) Clipping the nails. (5) and depilating the hair of the armpits. (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Hadith No.779, Vol.7) Narrated Ibn Umar رضي الله عنهما Allâh’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم said: "Cut the moustaches short and leave the beard (as it is)." [4] (V.33:7) There are many Prophets and Messengers of Allâh. About twenty-five of them are mentioned in the Qur’an; out of these twenty-five, only five are of strong will: namely (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم, Nûh (Noah), Ibrâhîm (Abraham), Mûsâ (Moses) and ‘Îsâ (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary) عليهم السلام).
