And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers.

139. And, verily, Yûnus (Jonah) was one of the Messengers.
The ProphetsNo. 21
Named in the Quran as one of the messengers.
Yunus was sent to a hundred thousand or more (37:147). He left his people in anger before Allah gave him leave (21:87), and boarded a laden ship. Lots were drawn, he lost, and the fish swallowed him (37:140-142).
In the darkness he called out, declaring that there is no god but Allah, glorifying Him and confessing that he had done wrong (21:87). Allah answered him and saved him from distress, as He saves the believers (21:88). Had he not been one who glorified Allah, he would have remained in its belly until the Day they are raised (37:143-144). His people believed, and theirs was the only town whose faith saved it from the punishment (10:98).
islamweb notes that reports differ on how long he stayed in the fish, and that the story of the punishment circling over his people's heads has no basis in the Quran or the Sunnah.

139. And, verily, Yûnus (Jonah) was one of the Messengers.
And [mention] the man of the fish [i.e., Jonah], when he went off in anger[899] and thought that We would not decree [anything] upon him.[900] And he called out within the darknesses,[901] "There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers."
[899] At the disbelief of his people. [900] Or "would not restrict him" in the belly of the fish. [901] That of the night, of the sea, and of the fish's interior.
Saheeh International · QuranEnc v1.1.2
87. And (remember) Dhun-Nûn (Jonah), when he went off in anger, and imagined that We shall not punish him (i.e. the calamities which had befallen him)! But he cried through the darkness (saying): Lâ ilâha illâ Anta [none has the right to be worshipped but You (O, Allâh)], Glorified (and Exalted) be You [above all that (evil) they associate with You]! Truly, I have been of the wrong-doers."
Then has there not been a [single] city that believed so its faith benefited it except the people of Jonah? When they believed, We removed from them the punishment of disgrace in worldly life and gave them enjoyment [i.e., provision] for a time.
Saheeh International · QuranEnc v1.1.2
98. Was there any town (community) that believed (after seeing the punishment), and its Faith (at that moment) saved it (from the punishment)? (The answer is none) - except the people of Yûnus (Jonah); when they believed, We removed from them the torment of disgrace in the life of the (present) world, and permitted them to enjoy for a while.
