The hadith

On the authority of Abu Muhammad Abdullah bin ’Amr bin al-’Aas (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “None of you [truly] believes until his desires are subservient to that which I have brought.” [Imam an-Nawawi says:] We have related it in Kitab al-Hujjah with a saheeh chain of narrators

Lessons

Complete faith means bringing one's desires under what the Prophet ﷺ brought, accepting his judgement without resentment (4:65). Love of Allah and His Messenger is proven by obedience (9:24), as when the Companions poured out wine the moment it was forbidden, and striving against one's own desires is among the greatest efforts.

On its authenticity: an-Nawawi graded the hadith sahih, and Ibn Hajar vouched for its narrators, but Ibn Rajab judged it weak because of one weak narrator; islamweb's article notes that its meaning is supported by the Quran and the Sunnah.
