Life

She was a daughter of the Prophet ﷺ and Khadija; Ibn 'Abd al-Barr counts her second, after Zaynab. She was first married to 'Utba, a son of Abu Lahab, who divorced her before the marriage was consummated when Surat al-Masad was revealed (111) and his parents pressed him to.

She then married 'Uthman ibn 'Affan in Makkah and emigrated with him to Abyssinia, where she bore him a son, 'Abdullah. When the Muslims set out for Badr she was ill, and 'Uthman stayed behind to nurse her at the Prophet's ﷺ word; he was given the reward and share of one who had fought there. She died in Ramadan 2 AH, at the time of Badr, as an-Nawawi gives it.

Narrated Ibn `Umar:`Uthman did not join the Badr battle because he was married to one of the daughters of Allah's Apostle and she was ill. So, the Prophet (ﷺ) said to him. "You will get a reward and a share (from the war booty) similar to the reward and the share of one who has taken part in the Badr battle
