The event

Before the prophethood, Quraysh rebuilt the Ka'bah. Jabir tells that the Prophet ﷺ and al-'Abbas carried stones for it (al-Bukhari 1582). Ibn Ishaq, in Ibn Hisham's Sirah, dates it to when he was thirty-five.

The tribes shared out the walls between them, but when the building reached the place of the Black Stone each wanted the honour of setting it, and they came close to fighting. They agreed to let the first man to enter judge between them, and it was Muhammad, whom they called al-Amin. He had the Stone placed on a cloth, had every tribe lift an edge, and set it in its place with his own hand.

Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah:When the Ka`ba was built, the Prophet (ﷺ) and `Abbas went to bring stones (for its construction). Al `Abbas said to the Prophet, "Take off your waist sheet and put it on your neck." (When the Prophet (ﷺ) took it off) he fell on the ground with his eyes open towards the sky and said, "Give me my waist sheet." And he covered himself with it
