About this place

When the flood ended, the earth swallowed its water, the sky held back, and the ark came to rest on al-Judi (11:44).

Shurrab places al-Judi on the eastern side of the Tigris, in what was the district of Mosul. The Quran names the mountain but no sound text fixes its site, so it is marked as disputed; the map shows the dictionary's view.

And it was said, "O earth, swallow your water, and O sky, withhold [your rain]." And the water subsided, and the matter was accomplished, and it [i.e., the ship] came to rest on the [mountain of] Jūdiyy. And it was said, "Away with the wrongdoing people."
