Do not become angry

Asked for advice, the Prophet ﷺ warned again and again against anger, the door to many wrongs.

Sahih

The hadith

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): A man said to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), “Counsel me,” so he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Do not become angry.” The man repeated [his request for counsel] several times, and [each time] he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Do not become angry.” [Al-Bukhari]

Lessons

The Prophet ﷺ repeated one piece of advice: do not become angry. Anger is the root of much evil, of broken ties and lasting regret. The Quran praises those who hold back their anger and pardon people (3:134): restraint, then forgiveness, then answering wrong with good.

In practice: when angry, ask Allah's help, seek refuge from Satan, remember Allah, recall the reward of restraint, change your posture by sitting or lying down, and avoid what provokes you.
