Life

Al-Dhahabi reports that he was captured among Quraysh at Badr, and that it is said he had accepted Islam before the Hijra and hidden it; he joined the Prophet ﷺ before the conquest of Makkah. He was a man of dignity, good sense and a strong voice.

In a drought, 'Umar asked Allah for rain through the supplication of the Prophet's uncle, as they had once asked through the Prophet ﷺ himself, and they were given rain (al-Bukhari 1010). He died in Madinah in 32 AH, most say, and 'Uthman led his funeral prayer; others give 33 or 34.

Narrated Anas:Whenever drought threatened them, `Umar bin Al-Khattab, used to ask Al-Abbas bin `Abdul Muttalib to invoke Allah for rain. He used to say, "O Allah! We used to ask our Prophet to invoke You for rain, and You would bless us with rain, and now we ask his uncle to invoke You for rain. O Allah ! Bless us with rain."(1) And so it would rain
